Book Description
In Spiritual Visions, author Cathy Jewell Dalpra considers how God is part of everything in life?how we can visualize the spirituality of life through Him. Whether it is the turning of darkness into light, the opening of the heavens, or the sweet songs of the birds, His presence is felt everywhere, in all things. The poetry in this collection looks at the inspiration that can change the lives of many or brighten the day of a few. Her poetry explores the important things that matter in life, our loved ones who support us, the ability to write poignant poetry that offers visions of hope and love, and the peace that can be found in the serenity of our relationship with God and nature. Through the poetry in Spiritual Visions, we experience spirituality in many ways, from the quietness of dawn, when the presence of God surrounds us, to the joy of friendship. The beauty of these precious moments inspires us. Dawn Break May 1, 2011, from God I hear the morning birds chirping. My cats and I are peacefully listening. We have been up for hours, dawn breaking. Our other cat friends have come, are napping. The six cats and I have a 4:00 a.m. meeting. They eat and play as I am spiritually centering. The unconditional love they generate is disbelieving. Poems and scriptures from God start flowing.

The Spiritual Vision of Frank Buchman

The Spiritual Vision of Frank Buchman PDF Author: Philip Boobbyer
Publisher: Penn State Press
ISBN: 0271069449
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 232
Book Description
The Spiritual Vision of Frank Buchman is an in-depth look at the life, spirituality, and ideology of one of the most original figures in twentieth-century religion. Frank Buchman (1878–1961), the Pennsylvania-born initiator of the movement known as the Oxford Group and Moral Re-Armament, was a Lutheran pastor who first had influence as a college evangelist and missionary with the YMCA. His thinking then evolved during the 1930s, the Second World War, and the early Cold War as he tried to develop a world philosophy that could offer an answer to war and materialism. His impact was particularly felt in the areas of conflict resolution between nations and interfaith dialogue, and Alcoholics Anonymous also owed much to his methods. Philip Boobbyer’s book is the first scholarly overview of Buchman’s ideas and is an important addition to the growing corpus of academic literature on his worldwide outreach. Boobbyer shows how his work reflected broader processes in twentieth-century religion and politics and can be seen as a spiritual response to an emerging global society.

Joseph Cornell's Vision of Spiritual Order

Joseph Cornell's Vision of Spiritual Order PDF Author: Lindsay Blair
Publisher: Reaktion Books
ISBN: 1780231601
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
The "boxes" and collages constructed by Joseph Cornell (1903–72) are among the most intriguing and beguiling works of art made this century. Old toys, photos, magazine illustrations, bits of electrical wiring – anything in fact more usually left to molder in lumber rooms or junkshops – were hoarded by him as the elemental materials he needed for his constructions. The finished works are visually entrancing, but the intensely personal webs of reverie and association that determined their content make these boxes at once both oddly familiar yet ineluctably strange. Drawing on the widest range possible of primary material – virtually all Cornell's scrapbooks and source files, as well as correspondence and diaries – supplemented by further details gathered during more than fifty interviews undertaken with the artist's family and acquaintances, including Robert Motherwell and Susan Sontag, Lindsay Blair gives us the most detailed picture yet of an artist who hid so much of his life from the world. Her conclusion, wholly convincing in the light of the evidence she provides, is that Cornell's ultimate subject was the mind itself.
