Recognize PDF Author: Eavan Gilhuly
Publisher: Elm Hill
ISBN: 140032680X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 120
Book Description
Eavan Gilhuly, a graduate of Desert Christian Academy in Bermuda Dunes, CA has written an inspirational and heartfelt devotional, a publication that provides a specific spiritual reading for each calendar day. Gilhuly says the book, entitled Recognize, was penned as a tribute to her graduating class of 2019, and she presented it to them at a recent retreat. The book is structured so that each devotional day begins with a Bible verse, followed by Gilhuly's thoughts and feelings about that verse and then a subsequent journal prompt. She says it was her pastor who suggested the format, with an emphasis on "God," then "you," and then "them." While she enjoyed writing each of the fifty entries, Gilhuly says her favorite devotional is Day #3: Lamentations 3:22-23, a passage focused on God’s faithfulness, mercies and promises. A lifelong desert resident, Gilhuly plans to study nursing at Northwest University, a top-ranked Christian college near Seattle, in the fall. She does not rule out a follow up to Recognize but acknowledges the next book would likely be a different type of devotional. Recognizing the Real Enemy

Recognizing the Real Enemy PDF Author: Miguel A. Demelli
Publisher: Dog Ear Publishing
ISBN: 1608441571
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 300
Book Description
Most believers know that the Bible says ..". for we wrestle not against flesh and blood..." But, if we say that "we know this," then why are there so many believers, made of flesh and blood, blaming, resenting and fighting one another? Maybe it's because we are not realizing enough that those negative " thoughts and feelings" do not come "just from us..".but from living beings that are unseen. We are not realizing enough that unholy thoughts, feelings, desires and reasons did not originate "from us" or from what is said to be "our sinful nature..".just as holiness does not originate "from us." If our holi-ness comes from the HolySpirit, would our un-holiness not also come from un-holyspirits? I submit that we do not understand enough " the sin that dwells in the flesh." It is alive, and does what we do not want to do... unless we recognize the real, spiritualenemies behind "the flesh." Miguel Demelli is a Spirit-filled believer who also embraces the Hebraic roots of the Messiah and the Whole House of Israel (Ezekie 37:15-28). He's been searching for the "keys to victory" for 15 years. And just when he thought he was defeated forever, these simple truths were clarified to him and transformed his walk...forever. His desire is to see true unity and victory in the Body. But, as he found out for himself, this cannot happen as long as there is so much hidden, unrecognized enemy activity in and through us operating against ourselves and then against one another, resulting in much strife and even diseases. He presently splits his time as a translator in his local congregation, as Spanish Outreach Coordinator/Translator for the Messianic Israel Alliance in the US and Mexico, as an associate with wholeness ministries and with other personal ministry and translation opportunities. He currently resides in Orlando, Florida. Cover Illustration by Rosemary Burke (c) 2009

Recognizing Other Subjects

Recognizing Other Subjects PDF Author: Katharine Eleanor Lassiter
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1498230377
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 200
Book Description
How do we care justly when selves suffer because of the identities that they inhabit? Pastoral theologian Katharine Lassiter approaches this interdisciplinary question from a feminist perspective in order to understand how suffering, subject formation, and social injustice are interconnected. Reflecting on tensions in her own experiences of caring for selves, Lassiter identifies the challenges of identity in developing a pastoral theological anthropology. Drawing from theories of recognition, she argues that doing just care requires recognizing the need for recognition as well as understanding the impediments to receiving interpersonal, social, and theological recognition. Bringing together resources from pastoral theology and social theory, she develops a feminist pastoral theology and praxis of encounter in order to advance a care that does justice. Scholars, social justice practitioners, and pastoral caregivers will be able to use this resource to understand not only how and why recognition affects human development but also how we might implement a liberative theological praxis attentive to the role of recognition in subject formation.

Environmental Change and Human Security: Recognizing and Acting on Hazard Impacts

Environmental Change and Human Security: Recognizing and Acting on Hazard Impacts PDF Author: Peter H. Liotta
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402085516
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 478
Book Description
Environmental and Human Security: Then and Now 1 2 ALAN D. HECHT AND P. H. LIOTTA * 1 U. S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Research and Development 2 Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy Salve Regina University 1. Nontraditional Threats to Security The events of September 11, 2001 have sharpened the debate over the meaning of being secure. Before 9/11 there were warnings in all parts of the world that social and environmental changes were occurring. While there was prosperity in North America and Western Europe, there was also increasing recognition that local and global effects of ecosystem degradation posed a serious threat. Trekking from Cairo to Cape Town thirty years after living in Africa as a young teacher, for example, travel writer Paul Theroux concluded that development in sub-Saharan Africa had failed to improve the quality of life for 300 million people: “Africa is materially more decrepit than it was when I first knew it—hungrier, poorer, less educated, more pessimistic, more corrupt, and you can’t tell the politicians from the witch-doctors” (2002). While scholars and historians will debate the causes of 9/11 for some time, one message is clear: An often dizzying array of nontraditional threats and complex vulnerabilities define security today. We must understand them, and deal with them, or suffer the consequences. Environmental security has always required att- tion to nontraditional threats linked closely with social and economic well-being.

Recognizing Transsexuals

Recognizing Transsexuals PDF Author: Zowie Davy
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317070593
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 207
Book Description
Recognizing Transsexuals draws on interviews with transsexuals at various stages of transition to offer an original account of transsexual embodiment and bodily aesthetics. Exploring the reasons for which transpeople desire to modify their bodies, it moves away from the focus on gender that characterizes much work on transpeople's embodiment, to investigate the concept of bodily aesthetics. Recent legislation allowing transsexuals to apply for gender recognition provides the context in which transpeople challenge the conventional understandings of what it means to be men and women. The book examines key approaches to recognizing transsexualism from within a variety of fields and considers transsexuals' bodies, body projects and embodiment in relation to personal, political and medico-legal fields. It explores the ways in which transpeople's bodily aesthetics affect social relations - such as sexual relations, acceptance by others and their families - whilst also considering contemporary political trans community organizations and their public representation of trans-bodies. Recognizing Transsexuals is the first sociological examination of how the bodies of transpeople are figured and reconfigured in socio, politico and medico-legal contexts and considers the impact of these shifts, and will be of interest to those with interests in embodiment, the sociology of law, sexology, medical sociology and gender theory.

Think - Feel - Recognise

Think - Feel - Recognise PDF Author: Wolfgang A. Haas
Publisher: tredition
ISBN: 3347233344
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 112
Book Description
A cozy New Year's Eve with the "Transformation Game" was the origin of this little book. The hint from the game to look for an inspiration every week inspired Wolfgang A. Haas to write the texts collected here. Transformation was a central idea. It was always a great concern of the author to draw attention to our inner processes in an authentic and very practical way from everyday life. The wisdom of the following quotation of the Dalai Lama underlies many of the texts in this book: "If you think everything is someone else's fault, you will suffer a lot. When you realize that everything comes from within yourself, you will learn both peace and joy.” Each text closes with a question and invites self-exploration in a loving way. So let yourself be inspired!

Recognizing Rural Ministry

Recognizing Rural Ministry PDF Author: Carl P. Greene
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1666749230
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 197
Book Description
Rural ministry can be a frustrating endeavor. Traditional metrics of success are misleading and anecdotal, one-size-fits-all approaches which often fall flat in the field. In Recognizing Rural Ministry, Carl Greene uses his research to suggest tools to customize your ministry to your community and effectively engage often-overlooked mission fields. These tools come from data-driven academic research presented through the lens of the author's lived experience as a dairy farmer, rural pastor, hospice chaplain, rural layperson, rural policy advocate, and administrator of a network of churches. The book is intended for rural ministry practitioners who want to use current scholarship to better examine the complexity and diversity of rural contexts. The book engages with the rural ministry impact of cultural phenomena such as the rise of the “Spiritual but Not Religious” (SBNR) phenomenon and “early old age” (EOA) demographics. The text also addresses key theories surrounding rural subcultures, demographic tools available to describe rural communities, and the shaping influence of rural community rituals on religiosity. Intended for pastors, seminarians, college students, and rural laypersons who are passionate about adding to their toolbox of rural ministry assessment.
