Essentials for Practice of Medicine in the Frontline

Essentials for Practice of Medicine in the Frontline PDF Author: Inyang Ukot
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1664227571
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 444
Book Description
Essentials for practice of medicine in the frontline is an abridged synthesis of selected topics from family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, pathology, and psychiatry; also, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, hematology, and dermatology. Each section covers ten salient and commonly-encountered areas of practice by physicians. Multiple-choice questions and answers accompany each Section. The setting of writing is a developing country. The contents are relevant to doctors who practice in the medically advanced countries and those in the developing countries. Medically, the world has become an interesting place. Air travel, frequent movement, and resettlement of people now mean that doctors in developed countries can no longer stay and practice within the clinical conditions that were typical in their practice settings. Things have changed, as they cannot be certain of what medical conditions that patients from various parts of the world will present to them. Doctors also cannot be unequivocal that an emergency in a distant part of the globe may not require their attention. This book therefore meets the needs of doctors, irrespective of their length of practice or where they practice. What applies to doctors certainly applies to medical students. This book is an atypical book as it puts in its two volumes of less than 500 pages of 8.5”x 11” per volume material that any doctor, anywhere, should keep on their office or consulting room bookshelf. The e-book version is also a veritable companion.

Publisher: Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers
ISBN: 3318065838
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 536
Book Description
Telemedicine in Low-Resource Settings, Volume 2

Telemedicine in Low-Resource Settings, Volume 2 PDF Author: Richard Wootton
Publisher: Frontiers Media SA
ISBN: 2889636895
Category :
Languages : en
Pages :
Book Description
Telemedicine networks to support healthcare workers in resource-limited settings (often for humanitarian purposes) have evolved in a largely autonomous way. Communication between the networks has been informal and relatively limited in scope. This situation could be improved by developing a comprehensive approach to the collection and dissemination of information. While many telemedicine networks remain experimental, some have matured to become routine services which assist health care delivery in challenging environments. For example, there are a few networks which have been in operation for over a decade, and provide store-and-forward telemedicine services to doctors in lowand middle-income countries. These networks deliver clinically useful services and improved healthcare access. However, like much of telemedicine, the formal evidence for their cost-effectiveness remains weak. Topics of current research interest therefore include the cost-effectiveness of telemedicine in resource-limited settings. Other topics of interest concern outcomes data (and methods for gathering it) such as patient quality of life following a telemedicine episode, the knowledge-gain of healthcare staff involved in telemedicine, and staff recruitment and retention in rural areas. Finally, there is little published information about the performance of these telemedicine networks (and methods for measuring it), about how best to manage them, and about how to share resources between them. Following the previous volume, this Research Topic will document current evidence supporting the use of telemedicine in resource-limited settings.

Yearbook of Pediatric Endocrinology 2014

Yearbook of Pediatric Endocrinology 2014 PDF Author: K. Ong
Publisher: Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers
ISBN: 3318027707
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 250
Book Description
The body of knowledge in most medical specialties is rapidly expanding, making it virtually impossible to follow all advances in clinical and basic sciences that are relevant to a given field. This is particularly true in pediatric endocrinology, at the cross-road of pediatrics, endocrinology, development and genetics. Providing abstracts of articles that report the year’s breakthrough developments in the basic sciences and evidence-based new knowledge in clinical research and clinical practice that are relevant to the field, the 'Yearbook of Pediatric Endocrinology' keeps busy clinicians and scientists, pediatric endocrinologists, and also pediatricians and endocrinologists informed on new advances. Twelve Associate Editors and their co-authors selected from several thousand papers those that brought the most meaningful new information, summarized them and provided comments to put them into perspective. The papers are classified into those that identify new genes involved in diseases, new hormones, concepts revised or re-centered, important observations for clinical practice, large-scale clinical trials, new mechanisms, new paradigms, important review articles, new fears and new hopes. Because the Yearbook is endorsed by the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), its publication is linked to the annual meeting of the ESPE. The 'Yearbook of Pediatric Endocrinology 2014' covers the medical and scientific literature from June 2013 through May 2014.
